The Important Updates

- Rules for Each Place: Canada has different parts, like provinces and territories. Some places had too many students, so they will have fewer now. It’s like sharing toys with your friends fairly.
- Who’s Not Affected: If you’re already studying in Canada or renewing your study permit, you’re safe. Also, if you’re doing a master’s, doctoral, or school program, these rules don’t apply to you.
- New Requirement: When you apply to come study in Canada, you will need a letter from the place (province or territory) you want to study. This letter says it’s okay for you to come. This starts in January 2024.
- Changes to Work Permits:
- If you’re coming to a special programs (part of a curriculum licensing arrangement) , you won’t get a work permit after you finish.
- If you’re doing a master’s or a short program, you can get a 3-year work permit.
- Spouses (husband or wife) of a master’s or a doctoral degree can get an open work permit. But if they’re in a different kind of program, they can’t.
