The Pearson Test of English (PTE) has been approved by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for use in Canadian immigration applications.

The PTE will join CELPIP and IELTS General Training as one of three English language tests that skilled workers can take to show their English proficiency to the IRCC. IRCC requires all skilled worker applicants to complete language proficiency testing to prove their ability to thrive economically in Canada.

The approval of PTE means there are now five total language tests available for skilled worker candidates, including two French language tests.

IRCC has not yet specified when the PTE can be submitted, but it’s expected to be available towards the end of 2023.

To immigrate to Canada, candidates must also achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark score, which varies depending on the pathway they choose.
